Acetone, Histological Grade also known as propanone, is an organic compound and a colorless, flammable liquid. Due to its miscibility with water, it serves as an important solvent. Used as a polar aprotic solvent in a wide range of organic reactions, acetone does not form an azeotrope with water. Thanks to it's low cost and volatility, it is also commonly used to clean laboratory glassware. Another characteristic of acetone is that it can be cooled with dry ice to -78 C without freezing.

Chloroform, or trichloromethane, is a colorless, sweet smelling organic compound comes in the form of a dense liquid. Historically used as an anesthetic, today it is most widely used in the production of chlorodifluoromethane. It is also commonly used as laboratory solvent as it is relatively unreactive and conveniently volatile as well as being miscible with most organic compounds.
