Dextran, 40,000, Powder is a complex branched glucan that is synthesized by certain lactic acid bacteria from sucrose. Commonly used in microsurgery to decrease the risk of vascular thrombosis, these agents are also used as effective osmotic agents and can treat hypovolemia.
