- Filtering and bottling of NEST® FBS are performed in a positive-pressure, HEPA-filtered controlled environment
Quality Details:
- Sterility - The products are all sterility tested based on the EP or USP to ensure no bacteria, yeast, E. coli phages, etc. Sterile filtration, asepticpackaging and each batch will be sampled for sterility testing
- Mycoplasma - Each product batch must be tested for the presence of mycoplasma. Mycoplasma in the serum is detected through culture methods
- Hemoglobin - Quantitative and colorimetric methods are used to determine the residual hemoglobin concentration in each product batch
- Cell Culture Testing - Each batch of FBS is tested for in vitro culture effects of specific cell lines, mainly evaluated based on the following three aspects:
a) Growth promotion
b) Cloning efficiency
c) Plating efficiency - Endotoxin - All serum have been quantitatively tested by color dynamics to determine and quantify endotoxin levels
- Osmotic Pressure - Osmotic pressure is measured by observing the freezing point depression, with osmometers calibrated using traceable standards
- BSE Testing - For bovine-derived materials, BSE testing is performed before any blood is processed. NEST® fetal bovine serum is guaranteed BSE-free
- Bovine Serum Specific Virus Screening - Each serum batch undergoes further virus testing using cell culture methods. The serum is inoculated onto GBK cells to confirm the absence of specific viruses. Virus detection is performed via indirect immunofluorescence for BVD, IBR, and PI3 viruses, and all tests return negative
NEST® Fetal Bovine Serum (FBS) is a premium supplement widely used in mammalian cell culture, providing essential growth factors, hormones, proteins, and other components for both adherent and suspension cells. Ideal for cell line proliferation, primary culture, and applications in basic research, drug discovery, development, and clinical studies, NEST® FBS is sourced from carefully collected fetal bovine blood and immediately processed to ensure quality.
Each batch undergoes strict sterility, mycoplasma, and virus testing, as well as cell growth, plating efficiency, and cloning efficiency evaluations on HeLa, L929, SP2/O-AG14, and MRC-5 cell lines. Certified batches are further tested for endotoxins, chemical composition, protein electrophoresis, and radioimmunodiffusion, ensuring reliable, high-quality serum for all research applications.
