Cruzain is essential for the replication of the parasite and thus is a new target for antitrypanosomal chemotherapy. Bromo-PTC is a potent inhibitor of cruzain (IC50 = 100 nM) which exhibits trypanocidal activity in cultured host cells without toxicity1.
